12. Conclusion

When atoms combine through chemical bonding, they form compounds which has unique structures composed of two or more atoms. When atoms bond, electrons are either shared or exchanged. Molecules form by the chemical bonding of atoms. All chemical bonding is due to electrostatic attraction. The bonding are happened according to the Octet rule which explains the fact that most of the elements in periodic table tend to gain, lose, or share electrons to reach a total of 8 valence electrons in their compounds.. A chemical bond is the physical process that causes atoms and molecules to be attracted to each other and held together in more stable chemical compounds.

A review of Lewis dot structures and VSEPR theory will prepare you for predicting likely bond arrangements, resonance structures and molecular geometries. Lewis dot symbols are a chemical representation of am atom’s valence electrons. In Lewis notation, dots and crosses are used to represent the valence electrons around the central atom. The valence shell electron pair repulsion (VSEPR) theory predicts the three dimensional molecular geometry of covalently bonded molecules. In this theory, electrons whether bonding or non-bonding arrange themselves to be as far apart as possible from each other in three dimensional dpace leading to characteristic geometries.
